Alzheimer’s Disease: Life Matters
A local woman turns her personal experience with Alzheimer’s disease into an organization to help others.

Kae Hammond founded “ALZ Life Matters” after her experience caring for her own mother. When her mother Shirley was diagnosed it took Kae years to learn about the legal, emotional, and psychological challenges of caring for someone with the disease. After this experience she decided to create an organization to help caregivers plan how to take care of their relatives.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 11,000 people in the Coachella Valley are living with the disease. That number is expected to triple by 2030.
But the disease not only affects the patients. 70% of caregivers die before their Alzheimer’s patient. This statistic is influenced by many factors, but it is at the heart of the issues addressed by “ALZ Life Matters.”
